Votive, or prayer
candles burn as a sign that prayer has been offered,
that others have been in this place before you, a sign that Light yet shines in a darkness that cannot overcome
it
(John 1:5).
St. Augustine said, "one loving
spirit sets another on fire." So take time before you pray and light your candle, to look
at the prayer requests of those before you, and then add your
prayer
and light to theirs--
we are after all, a community of prayer,
called
to set the world ablaze with the
Light of Christ.
